Placed on Hogwarts grounds to guard the secret entrance into the Shrieking Shack in 1971, the Whomping Willow is not a treet that one should get too close to. If anyone does get too close to this tree, which stands solitary on a hill after crossing the bridge and proceeding tothe right, it isn't pretty. It's called the Whomping Willow for a reason and it doesn't care if it bludgeons a person to death. There is a knot at the bottom of the tree that if you prod with a long stick will freeze the tree but it is not recommended and most students do not know about this little trick.
